Preventive Health

Wellness & Preventive Care

The best treatment is prevention. Our wellness programme is built around proactive, personalised care that keeps your pet healthy at every stage of life — from their first puppy or kitten visit through their senior years.

Why Wellness Visits Matter

Prevention Is the Foundation of Good Health

Regular wellness examinations give our veterinary team the opportunity to detect health concerns before they become serious — and costly — problems. During each visit, we perform a thorough nose-to-tail physical assessment, review your pet's vaccination history, and discuss anything you've noticed at home.

Preventive care goes beyond the annual exam. Parasite management protects your pet from fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites that can silently affect their health. Proper nutrition — including prescription therapeutic diets where indicated — supports healthy weight, joint function, and organ health over the long term.

We believe that an informed pet owner is a pet's greatest health advocate. Our team takes the time to explain what we find during every examination and works with you to build a care plan that fits your pet's individual needs and your family's lifestyle.

From First Visit to Golden Years

Care at Every Life Stage

Your pet's health needs change as they grow. We tailor our preventive protocols to match each life stage, so your companion gets exactly the right care at the right time.

Puppies & Kittens

Early life visits establish a vaccination foundation, screen for congenital conditions, and set healthy habits from day one. We discuss socialisation, parasite prevention, and appropriate nutrition for rapid growth stages.

Adult Pets

Annual wellness exams keep your adult companion in peak condition. We review vaccination status, perform a thorough physical assessment, and discuss any behavioural or dietary changes you've noticed at home.

Senior Companions

Pets age faster than we do. Bi-annual wellness visits for senior dogs and cats allow us to catch age-related changes early. Life-stage blood panels give us a detailed picture of organ function and overall health.

Spay & Neuter Packages

Spaying and neutering your pet is one of the most impactful decisions you can make for their long-term health. In addition to preventing unwanted litters, these procedures significantly reduce the risk of certain cancers, uterine infections (pyometra), and hormone-related behavioural issues.

Our spay and neuter packages include a pre-surgical wellness examination, individualised anaesthetic protocols, careful monitoring throughout the procedure, and detailed post-operative care instructions to support a smooth recovery at home.

Nutritional Counselling & Prescription Diets

Nutrition is the cornerstone of preventive health. The right diet can help manage weight, support joint health, slow kidney disease progression, and reduce the frequency of gastrointestinal upset — among many other benefits.

Our team provides evidence-based nutritional counselling tailored to your pet's species, breed, age, and health status. Where a medical condition warrants it, we can prescribe and source therapeutic diets specifically formulated to support treatment and improve quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I bring my dog or cat in for a wellness exam in Victoria?+
We recommend annual wellness exams for adult pets and twice-yearly visits for seniors (typically age 7+). Puppies and kittens need more frequent visits during their first year to complete their vaccination series and monitor development.
What vaccinations does my pet need in Victoria, BC?+
Core vaccines for dogs include rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus. Cats need rabies, feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. We may also recommend lifestyle-based vaccines such as leptospirosis or Bordetella depending on your pet's exposure risk on Vancouver Island.
Does my indoor cat still need parasite prevention?+
Yes. Victoria's mild coastal climate supports year-round flea activity, and parasites can enter your home on shoes, clothing, or other pets. We recommend continuous flea and intestinal parasite prevention for all cats, including those that stay indoors.
When should I switch my pet to a senior wellness plan?+
Most dogs and cats are considered seniors around age 7, though large-breed dogs may reach that stage by age 5 or 6. Senior wellness visits include baseline blood work and screening tests that help us catch age-related conditions like kidney disease or arthritis early.
