How we calculate this. This calculator uses a modern size-aware formula: Year 1 = 15 human years, Year 2 adds 9 more (24 total), and each subsequent year adds 4–7 depending on breed size — larger dogs age faster. For cats, each year beyond the second adds 4 human years. This is more accurate than the traditional “×7” method.
